Finnish is the official language of Finland where it is spoken by the majority of the population. It is a Uralic language which is spoken by 5.4 million native speakers. It is also recognized as a vernacular of a minority community in Sweden. It is spoken by minorities in Russia, Norway, Estonia, Brazil, Canada, and the United States. It belongs to the Finnic branch of the Uralic family. Meänkieli and Kven are two Finnic vernaculars that are mutually intelligible with Finnish. The script for writing the tongue was derived from the Latin alphabet. The typical word order is subject-verb-object but it can be altered in certain situations.
There are multiple dialects of this vernacular. They can be divided into two main groups Western dialects and Eastern dialects. All the dialects from both groups are spoken in different regions of Finland.
